Can you delete your Tinder account?

Yes, you can delete your Tinder account using the mobile app or the official website. You can find this option in the platform’s settings. Deleting your account removes your profile from the discovery queue, wipes your matches and messages, and erases your personal data.

However, deleting your account doesn’t cancel subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play. These must be canceled separately.

How to permanently delete your Tinder account

Below, we explain the two primary ways to close your account: using the app on a phone or accessing the browser version on a computer.

How to delete your Tinder account on an iPhone or an Android

You can delete your account using the Tinder app on both an iPhone and an Android. The process is the same for both devices:

  1. 1.Open the Tinder app and tap your profile icon (usually located in the bottom-right corner).

  5. 5.Tinder will ask you to select a reason for leaving. Select an option from the list, or tap “Skip” in the top-right corner if you prefer not to answer.

  6. 6.Confirm your decision by tapping “Delete my account” one last time.

All done! Note that deleting your account doesn’t cancel your Tinder Plus, Gold, or Platinum subscription. You must cancel it manually to avoid future charges. For detailed instructions, check how to cancel your Tinder subscription in the FAQ section.

Afterward, you can remove the app from your device to free up space.

How to delete your Tinder account on a computer

You can also delete your Tinder account using a web browser. This method is useful if you prefer using a computer or if you cannot access the mobile app.

  1. 1.Open the Tinder website on your browser and log in.

  2. 2.Click on your profile icon (labeled “You”) at the top left of the screen.

Note: If you purchased a Tinder Plus, Gold, or Platinum subscription directly through the website (using a credit card instead of the App Store or Google Play), deleting your account will automatically cancel your subscription.

What happens when you delete your Tinder account?

Deleting your Tinder account permanently erases your matches, messages, and photos. Your profile is also removed from the discovery queue, meaning no one can swipe on you anymore. This action is irreversible — even if you sign up again with the same email, you start from scratch.

Once you delete your account, you also lose access to your data. Tinder cannot retrieve this information for you once the process is complete. If you want to keep a copy of your information, download your data before deleting your account:

  1. 1.Go to the Tinder Portal at account.gotinder.com/data
  2. 2.Log in using your account credentials.
  3. 3.Select “Download my information.”
  4. 4.Enter your email address to receive the download link.

If you feel unsure, you can pause your Tinder account instead. Follow the instructions on how to delete your Tinder account within the app. Select “Pause my account” when the option appears rather than permanently deleting it. This setting hides your profile but keeps your matches and messages safe. Note that you can only use this feature on the mobile app.

Finally, remember that deleting your account doesn’t cancel subscriptions purchased via the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Can you recover a deleted Tinder account?

No, you can’t recover a deleted Tinder account. Unlike other sites that give you a cooling-off period during which you can change your mind, Tinder will delete your profile permanently if you ask it to.

You can start a new account at any time, but you cannot restore your old matches. You will have to upload your photos and details again from scratch.

How to pause your Tinder profile

Another way to pause your Tinder profile is by turning off the “Discovery” feature. Turning it off hides your profile from the card stack so no new people can see you, but allows you to keep chatting with your existing matches.

  1. 1.Open the Tinder app and tap your profile icon.
  2. 2.Tap the gear icon “⚙” (leads to “Settings”).
  3. 3.Scroll down until you see the section labeled “Enable discovery” (or "Show me on Tinder" on older versions).
  4. 4.Toggle the switch to “Off.”
  5. 5.Tap “Disable discovery.”

Does deleting the Tinder app remove your profile?

Deleting the Tinder app from your phone doesn’t delete your account. Your profile remains active, meaning other users can still see you (given you deleted the app with “Discovery” on), and your photos, matches, and messages are preserved on Tinder's servers.

Deleting just the app and not your account allows you to easily return by reinstalling the app. However, if you want to disappear from the platform completely, you must delete your account through the settings menu before uninstalling the app.

Why would you want to delete your Tinder account?

Online dating sites can put your privacy at risk. Tinder may expose you to several types of fraud:

  • Catfishing. Many online dating scams involve people pretending to be someone they are not. They steal real people’s personal information and photos, often using AI to create convincing fake accounts. If a dating profile seems too good to be true, you are likely dealing with a scammer. These impostors often trick users into wiring money, buying gifts, or clicking on links that contain malware.
  • Tinder bots. Similar to catfishing, hackers use fake profiles to set up automated bots. Bots require less maintenance and can trick multiple people at once. You can spot a Tinder bot by its overly perfect photos, instant replies, and generic answers that don’t match your questions.
  • Phishing. Phishing statistics reveal that scammers frequently target social media platforms. They often get your contact information by tracing your linked Instagram account or taking the conversation off the app. Once they have your details, they can send you messages asking you to confirm your account or click on malicious links. Be particularly wary of military romance scams. They are common on online dating apps.
  • Cyberstalking. Your Tinder profile can reveal a lot about you. Predators can use details in your bio — like your job, school, or linked Instagram — to find your full name and real-world location. By combining this information with Tinder’s location tracking, stalkers can potentially pinpoint your home or workplace, which can lead to harassment and cyberbullying both online and offline.
  • Sextortion. Scammers often encourage users to move the conversation to another platform (like Snapchat or WhatsApp) to exchange intimate photos or engage in video calls. They can record these interactions and threaten to send the footage to your friends, family, and employer unless you pay a ransom.

Tinder isn't the only place where your data is at risk. For a broader look at how your accounts can be misused, read our social media privacy tips.

Should you delete your other social media accounts?

You should only delete social media accounts if you no longer use them or if they raise privacy concerns. Leaving old profiles dormant increases your digital footprint.

If you have moved on from the Meta ecosystem, start by deleting Facebook entirely. If you want to keep the profile but stop the chats, consider deactivating Messenger instead.

Other types of apps also hoard data. Photo and video sharing apps track your location and social circles, which is a good reason for deleting Snapchat if you are inactive.

Finally, apply this security mindset to your other dating profiles. Using a VPN is a smart move for general privacy because it encrypts your online traffic. If you are still active in the dating scene, protect your location privacy by using a VPN for Hinge.

Conversely, if you are leaving the dating scene, don't leave loose ends. Make sure you remove your data from every platform by deleting that Bumble account as well.

Online security starts with a click.
