Reasons for deleting your Plenty of Fish account

Plenty of Fish is a popular online dating site designed to act as a matchmaker between single users looking for potential romantic partners. The app offers many ways to connect with other people, from traditional messaging to playing mini-games with them. However, there are situations where you might want to quit and delete your account.

Perhaps you’ve found your special someone on POF or somewhere else and want to remove yourself from the dating market. Or, on the contrary, you’ve decided that Plenty of Fish isn’t working for you, so it’s best to quit. In extreme situations, users may want to delete their accounts on dating sites because they have had unpleasant experiences, such as receiving unkind messages.

Whatever the reason, deleting your account is advisable for online privacy reasons. Each time you create a new profile somewhere on the internet, you expand your digital footprint, which is information about you that can be found online.

How does it relate to online dating? Is Plenty of Fish safe? Here’s the explanation: in the case of Plenty of Fish, your account stores data such as uploaded profile pictures, demographic information, contact information, dating preferences, and more. Such information can be used against you in the future. POF is not an unsafe platform by any means, but if hackers ever attack it, user data could leak and end up somewhere on the dark web. Things to consider before deleting your Plenty of Fish account

Deleting your Plenty of Fish account is permanent. If you ever decide to return to the platform, you won’t be able to reactivate your old account and will have to create a new one.

No data from the old account can be restored to the new one. All conversations and pictures will be lost when you delete your account, so if there’s anything you want to keep – back it up before deleting your POF account.

On iOS:

1. Open the POF app on your Apple device and go to “My profile.”
2. Tap “Manage account.”
3. Select “Delete my account.”

On Android:

The Plenty of Fish app for Android does not currently allow you to delete your account in the app. You can still log in to your account via your mobile browser and delete your account in the same way as described in the “On the website” section below.

On the website (mobile or desktop browser):

1. Go to “My profile.”
2. Select “Settings.”
3. Scroll down to the “Delete my account” section.
4. Click “Delete account” and follow the instructions.

How to hide your Plenty of Fish profile

If you want to take a break from Plenty of Fish but don’t want to permanently delete your account, you can hide your profile. Hidden profiles won’t be displayed in public areas of the service, so you won’t be visible to other users in features such as “Meet Me.” However, you can still chat with users you have previously connected with.

Hiding your profile is a good idea if you want to continue chatting with someone specific on POF but no longer care about public visibility. It reduces your exposure to scammers who may decide to use your profile information in their online dating scams.

Here’s how to hide your POF profile on the website:

1. Go to “My profile.”
2. Scroll down to the “Profile visibility” section.
3. Use the toggle to turn your visibility off.

On Android:

1. Go to “My profile.”
2. Tap “Manage account.”
3. In the “Settings” section, find the “Hide my profile” option.
4. Use the toggle to turn your visibility off.

On iOS:

The Plenty of Fish app for iOS offers a special feature called “Take a break.” It’s a special method of pausing your profile, similar to deleting it, but not as permanent. Your profile won’t show up on the “Discovery” page, and you won’t be able to use the “Meet Me” feature or send and receive messages.

To “Take a break” on iOS:

1. Go to “My profile.”
2. Tap “Manage account.”
3. Tap “Delete my account.”
4. Tap “Take a break.”
5. Select the period for which you want to take a break.

You can return to using the app before the set period expires. Just start using your profile, and it will automatically un-pause.

If you prefer the previous method of hiding your profile, you can log into your account using a mobile or desktop browser and hide your profile from there.

How to cancel a Plenty of Fish subscription

If you purchased your subscription using a payment method tied to your account, such as the Play Store or App Store, you need to cancel it using the same account. If your subscription isn’t tied to a Google or Apple account, you can simply cancel it through the official Plenty of Fish website.

Note that you must do this even if you plan to delete your account – the subscription won’t be canceled automatically.

Cancel your POF subscription on iPhone

To cancel a POF subscription on iOS devices:

1. Go to the App Store and tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen.
2. Tap “Media & purchases.”
3. Select “View account” and then “Subscriptions.”
4. Tap the POF subscription and “Cancel subscription.”

To cancel a POF subscription on Android devices:

1. Open the Google Play app and tap your profile icon in the upper right corner.
2. Tap “Payments & subscriptions.”
3. Select the POF subscription and tap “Cancel subscription.”

Cancel your POF subscription on the POF website

To cancel a POF subscription via the official website:

1. Go to “Manage account.”
2. In the “Membership” section, select “Account type.”
3. In the “My membership” section, select “Cancel membership”.
