NordVPN introduces a redesigned mobile experience

Designed for today, built to grow

To stay up to date with changing user needs and shifting trends in user experience, we’ve revised the current NordVPN app design to make it as simple and intuitive as possible. Through ongoing research and user interviews, we formed a detailed picture of how the app fits into everyday routines and saw the need for substantial changes. The results showed the need for an app that would be easy to navigate for first-time users without ruining the experience for seasoned NordVPN customers who like to customize the app’s features according to their liking.

With the expectations of both new and experienced users in mind, we concentrated our efforts on making the app simpler to use, without limiting more advanced expectations. As part of that work, we started building a stronger foundation for ongoing improvements and a more consistent experience across platforms. The result of this effort — a newly redesigned NordVPN mobile app that aims to provide you just that.

New look: Clear, focused, and instantly familiar

Based on user feedback, the app now sports a cleaner and more intuitive user interface. By simplifying layouts and reducing unnecessary distractions, we aim to help you focus on what matters most. The app’s new look reflects today’s design tendencies while staying true to NordVPN’s identity, specifically through main experiences like the connection area, search, profile, and the recent connections section.

A better way to connect

Similar to previous versions, when opening the app, the location suggested for you will appear immediately, even before taking any action. City names are now also visible alongside country names in order to provide more detailed information for the user.

If you set a preferred location during the NordVPN setup process or in the app’s settings, that choice remains the main VPN server, showing up on the screen when opening the app. Slightly refined versions of user security status and key connection actions also remain instantly visible upon opening the app.

If you prefer having connection information at your fingertips, the app offers a “Show connection details” feature in the three-dot menu. It will provide the current IP address, server number, and connection time. In the same menu, you can also reconnect, switch locations, open VPN settings, or access help resources if the app isn’t working as expected.

A bigger map to explore and connect

The map on the NordVPN app now looks noticeably different, adding more room to explore location servers. Based on user feedback, we’ve redesigned the map to appear in a compact view that highlights your current server location for quick orientation. In addition, you can easily expand it to a full screen, allowing you to move around freely and connect to VPN servers directly from the map. The updated map version should provide more convenience and control with available locations showing up as pins, giving an overview of VPN location server options at a glance.

Another update is a new search design that brings all connection options together in one place, whether you’re looking for a specific location, a server type, or a Meshnet device. If you, like the majority of our users, prefer using the search option to pick a server, you'll appreciate our one-stop shop for choosing any connection type. Clicking the search field or the “All locations” button will open the full list of countries and servers. The search field will also allow you to narrow down options by switching between categories for more convenient navigation.

To connect to specific location servers (for example, United Kingdom #1442), the option still remains — you can access your preferred server simply by typing its number in the search bar.

Online protection made visible

Finally, if you are interested in seeing how NordVPN protects you every day, gain useful insights with our updated statistics section. Along with how long your connection has stayed secure with the VPN, connection statistics will now show the averages and week-to-week comparisons. Like in previous versions, these statistics are stored on the user’s device and remain accessible to them only.

For more data, Call Protection statistics (currently available for Android only) will reveal how often scam or unwanted calls have occurred. As for updates coming in the near future, the Threat Protection tab will soon let you review how many ads, trackers, and malicious websites have been blocked while browsing. With daily charts and weekly summaries, it should help you spot patterns, compare trends, and understand online safety habits even better.

Online security starts with a click.
