Hide IP with proxy.
Did you know VPNs are much safer than proxies?
A web proxy server, also known as a proxy or application-level gateway, is a computer that sits between your devices and the Internet. It intercepts traffic flowing between you and the service you want to access.
Data coming into a proxy server enters through one port and is then forwarded through another port. By mediating access between you and the Internet, proxy servers make it difficult for hackers to obtain IP addresses and other private information. Still, a determined hacker (or a lazy one with the right software and hardware) can find out who you are and where you live, study, and work.
Some proxy servers use server applications that block common Internet services. For instance, an HTTP proxy takes over web access. These are the servers people typically try to access, which is very easy to do using NordVPN.
Proxies can cache web pages. Every time you request a URL from outside, a copy is stored locally. The next time you request the same URL, the proxy can supply the local copy instead reloading the original across the network. It improves performance but can leave you with stale, out-of-date results, which may be a problem if you depend on having the latest information and data.
When you use a proxy, it’s very important to trust the owner of the proxy. Why? Even if your data is encrypted coming to and from the proxy, the proxy must decrypt it to send it further. That means your private data is wide open on the proxy server. If you trust the proxy owner not to snoop and to protect your unencrypted data from hackers, this is not a problem. But how many of us know who runs a proxy, particularly a free one? If privacy is important, a VPN from an established provider with a reputation for safeguarding user data is a much better option.
Note: don’t confuse a proxy server with a network address translation (NAT) device. A proxy server sends and receives Internet traffic, acting as an intermediary on behalf of the client computer. A NAT device simply translates IP addresses between the local network and the Internet, allowing a single IP address to represent multiple addresses on the local network. A NAT device, such as a home router, does very little to protect your privacy online.
A web proxy is a great tool to secure your privacy online. You can use it on your Windows computer, MacBook, Linux computer and even on a tablet or a smartphone. Basically, our free web proxy can work on any device that has the Internet browser. Of course, an active Internet connection is necessary to benefit from using our web proxy server. At the moment, it uses our datacenter in Italy as an exit point to the Internet. Users from all over the world, especially from countries with high censorship level can use our web proxy and access the most popular websites on the Internet like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, eBay, Linkedin, etc.
However, a free web proxy does not have the encryption that a VPN can offer. NordVPN is like a private tunnel in the “Internet jungle.” The great thing about it is that only you can get into this tunnel, which is protected using the strongest encryption protocols that only NordVPN can offer. Even a free web proxy does not have such strong armor against the intruders. How do we secure your connection? We protect your traffic with an unbreakable military-grade AES-256 encryption. Moreover, web proxy list has only 1 server, while NordVPN has more than 3300 servers worldwide.
Unlike a free web proxy, it is not necessary to use a browser to benefit from the VPN connection. VPN secures your whole network and encrypts not only your browser but also the traffic of all your applications that use the Internet connection. Softwares such as Skype, Avast Free Antivirus, KMPlayer, Slack and many others benefit from using a VPN. Every single data packet is encrypted. This, unfortunately, could not be possible when using a web proxy server.
VPN service can protect your whole network, including your mobile phone, tablet, and even TV. It also protects all your applications, such as your web browser, Skype, Facebook app, streaming websites, etc.
Connection speed is also a relevant matter here. Since a web proxy is a free service, lots of Internet users tend to use it. It puts a heavy load on the server, which may result in a slow connection. Nevertheless, NordVPN offers up to 1GBPS server speeds and many locations all over the world. Also, a free web proxy cannot offer the connection stability as a VPN does. Moreover, NordVPN has an automatic Kill Switch feature that protects your private data in case the VPN connection drops. It allows you to stream video online securely, without interruptions or data leakage.
What also concerns most web proxy users is the speed and bandwidth limits. Lots of free services impose such limits. However, NordVPN does not limit, monitor or block connections speeds in any way, shape or form. Also, the unlimited bandwidth enables you to download as much data as you like, which may not be possible with a web proxy server.
Finally, if you are using a free web proxy, we would strongly recommend to take into consideration your online privacy and security, and start using a VPN instead.
