Multi-factor
authentication for Nord Account

Additional protection for your Nord Account.

What is multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an additional layer of security for your online accounts. When it’s enabled, you have to enter your password and then authorize the login attempt with a special app, time-sensitive code, or second device.

Why should I use multi-factor
authentication for Nord Account?

No one is entirely immune to phishing attacks, and massive database hacks hit the news every few weeks. Passwords are constantly being stolen, guessed, cracked, and leaked, which puts your online life in danger. But if you have MFA set up, it will be there to protect your Nord Account if that happens. Intruders would need to have access not only to your password but to your physical device as well – and that’s much harder to do.

Authentication apps

Authentication
apps

Nord Account supports authentication apps that periodically generate codes, which you must enter whenever you log in. The codes are valid for 30 seconds before they change to protect your accounts against delayed attacks.

There are many free authentication apps available for mobile devices, like Google Authenticator or Authy. Check the app’s description and reviews on Google Play or Apple’s App Store to make sure that it fully fits your needs.

Security keys

You can also use physical Bluetooth, NFC, or USB security keys to secure your account. USB devices plug it into your computer’s USB port. If your key supports NFC or Bluetooth, you can use it to log into your account on a smartphone.

Nord Account supports USB security keys certified by FIDO2. These include the Security Key series, Yubikey 5 series, iePass FIDO K44, MultiPass FIDO K25, ePass FIDO NFC K9 and K35, BioPass FIDO K26 and K27, and others.

How to set up MFA for Nord Account

Once you’ve selected and installed your authentication app, follow these steps to set up multi-factor authentication on your Nord Account:

1

Log in to your Nord Account and go to “Account settings”.

2

Open the “Multi-factor authentication (MFA)” tab.

3

Click on the “Multi-factor authentication (MFA)” panel.

4

Follow the instructions from the handy Setup Wizard.

Save your backup codes. You’ll need them in case you have to access Nord Account without your authentication app. You will be prompted to log out of all devices. This is highly recommended for your security.
