A Few Things We Found Out From Our User Survey

A few weeks ago we asked our customers to fill out a NordVPN user survey and share opinions and experiences with us. We’ve received over 1,300 responses, which provided a few interesting insights into the NordVPN community.

Our customers use VPN for three main purposes, with nearly half of respondents naming at least one of these: to avoid government surveillance (48.9%), to secure their data on public Wi-Fi (46.9%) and to access geo-blocked content (45.3%). Most are concerned about the global surveillance situation, with nearly three quarters of the respondents feeling that it is getting worse and almost 40% claiming that it is, in fact, strongly worse. The vast majority (89%) of you disagree with government officials having access to security backdoors.

More than half of our users have set up NordVPN on 2 or 3 devices, with 71.8 % using VPN on at least one mobile device. The majority agrees that VPN is the best way to secure data on public Wi-Fi, although 2% still think that using public hotspots in trusted locations is enough. It’s not!

While only 36% of the respondents feel “somewhat safe” when shopping online without VPN and only 19% feel “safe”, having VPN enabled makes things much, much better. A whopping 98% describe shopping with VPN as “somewhat safe”, “safe” or “very safe.” Truth be told, 4 respondents still feel very unsafe. We’ll see what we can do about that.

Our absolutely favorite part of every survey is counting server requests. This time, Antarctica finishes last with 1 request. Vanuatu got 3 in a row, which certainly doesn’t mean that our only customer in Vanuatu used our service to change their IP twice.

Moving on to the winner, it’s hands down Canada with over 40 requests! Your wishes are duly noted, and more Canadian servers will come in the future. Australians, your plea hasn’t fallen on deaf ears either!

Overall, we cherish every chance to know the NordVPN community better. That includes knowing your concerns, the two main ones being service speed and stability. Luckily, these are also the two main concerns of our excellent product team, who are working tirelessly to make things even better.
