A twenty nine year old Norvegian became a millionaire after investing in Bitcoin
In 2009, Christopher Koch’s girlfriend mocked at his purchase of Bitcoins worth $27. She might have changed her tune this April, when Koch checked his Bitcoins were worth $886,000.
Back then, he was working on a paper thesis about encryption, which presented him to utterly unknown world of Bitcoin. He decided to buy 5,000 Bitcoins for $27 because the process of encryption fascinated him and because why not. Later he forgot about his purchase when only four years later the news about Bitcoin revived his memory.
Koch was trying to remember the password to his wallet madly. By April 2013 standards, he had Bitcoins worth $886,000. After trading in just 1000 Bitcoins, Christopher was able to buy himself a new apartment in one of the wealthiest areas in Oslo – Toyen.
Of course, Bitcoin is also known for heavy fluctuations in value. The seizure of Silk Road is a recent example. The worth of 1 Bitcoin dropped to only $30 then rising again to $197. Today 5000 Bitcoins are worth $1,010,000.
